Retailers and delivery platforms are finding new ways to extend the reach and visibility of their fulfillment offerings via partnerships.

This week, I’d like to salute three innovative collaborations that take what has become the very commonplace service of on-demand delivery and find ways to spruce it up. Let’s take a closer look at partnership initiatives involving DoorDash, Grubhub, and Pizza Hut.

DoorDash – ‘Summer of DashPass’

Online delivery platform DoorDash is running its fourth annual “Summer of DashPass” promotion. The marketing extravaganza is back with thousands of deals across the nation, spanning categories including food, flowers, grocery, convenience, and sporting equipment.

During the five-week Summer of DashPass campaign, participating partner retailers will include Taco Bell, Wendy’s, Starbucks, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Walgreens, and Aldi. DashPass is DoorDash's paid membership program that offers $0 delivery fees, reduced service fees and member-only benefits on eligible orders.

In addition, throughout Summer of DashPass, consumers will have several chances to win experiences and exclusive items, such as music festival passes and a limited-edition cooler. An omnichannel U.S. marketing campaign will include television, in-app, paid digital, social, and radio from June through July. The campaign will offer ads featuring comedic actors Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott.

Grubhub – Homewood Suites

Grubhub is now bringing off-premises dining options to customers staying at a major hotel chain. The on-demand delivery provider is collaborating with the Homewood Suites by Hilton extended-stay hotel brand to provide deliveries from third-party food service retailers via the Grubhub app at nearly 500 Homewood Suites locations across the country.

Customers at Homewood Suites properties in the U.S. that don't have on-site dining options will be able to order from local restaurants and convenience stores on Grubhub via geolocation and QR codes around the property that take them directly to the Grubhub digital marketplace.

Hotel location and courier drop-off instructions will automatically populate at checkout. According to Grubhub, customers who were a part of a pilot program at select Homewood Suites locations earlier this year noted higher overall satisfaction with their delivery experience. This included factors such as the speed of delivery, packaging of the food, and options for delivery, including no contact delivery.

Pizza Hut – ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Pizza Hut is collaborating with the soon-to-be-released feature film “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” as part of a worldwide partnership with Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon Movies and Point Grey Productions.

In honor of the film, which will come out in theaters nationwide on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, Pizza Hut is testing "underground deliveries" for a limited time  in New York City. With the fictional home of the Ninja Turtles being in an abandoned subway station, Pizza Hut is offering select customers in Manhattan an underground delivery.

Customers in Manhattan can text the turtle emoji to a dedicated hotline number which then placed an order for Pizza Hut pizza. Once ordered, Pizza Hut prepares and delivers the pizza within minutes directly to the marked "Pizza Drop Zone" within the subway station.

Pizza Hut's full campaign for the launch of the film also includes digital and experiential integration, such as a mobile augmented reality (AR) game and specialty “mutant mayhem”-themed pizza boxes equipped with QR codes linking to the AR game.
